Imphal: Assam Police arrested a Manipur-based terrorist gang member on Friday, along with equipment that could be used for sabotage activities along National Highway 27 at the Sonapur toll gate, Assam.

The arrest of the militant went viral on social media. In the viral posts, he was identified as a close relative of the commerce and industry minister of Manipur, Nemcha Kipgen.

Nemcha Kipgen is one of the signatories of the 10 Kuki-Zo MLAs who have been demanding a separate administration for Kuki in Manipur.

The apprehended person was identified as Khaigoulen Kipgen, 27, son of Hensat Kipgen of Gamngai village, Kangpokpi district, Manipur.

In a video clip, Inspector General of Police (Special Task Force), Assam, Partha Sarathi Mahanta, said, acting on information from a central intelligence agency, a Manipur-based terrorist gang attempted to procure some equipment that might be used for sabotage activities. A team from the special task force of Assam Police detained Khaigoulen while he was traveling along NH-27 at the Sonapur toll gate, Assam, on Friday morning.

The senior police officer said ten TB30 Intelligent Flight batteries, suspected to be used in drones; cash amounting to Rs 3,40,000; four pairs of shoes; and one mobile handset were found.

He said it was learnt that Khaigoulen was trying to take the equipment to Manipur via Guwahati.

The detainee has been arrested, and a case has been registered at the concerned police station for further investigation.
