Imphal: Manipur crisis did not pause in Jiribam, it continued in Imphal city with blazing of an abandoned house in the heart of Imphal city on Saturday evening, at Old Lambulane.

The house was burnt down in the middle of tight security city zone.

According to police the abandoned house belonged to former chief secretary of Goa, the late Thangkhopao Kipgen.

Kipgen passed away on March 3, 2005, and the house had been occupied by his family inheritance.

The house is located adjacent to the Kuki Inn complex, which is opposite the Manipur chief minister’s residential bungalow at Babupara. It was just behind the New Manipur Secretariat office building.

The incident occurred at around 5:30 pm.

Manipur fire services rushed to the spot and doused the fire, assisted by a reinforcement team from Thoubal district.

Officials of the Manipur Fire Service said it was hard to extinguish and control the fire. The source of the fire was yet to be known.
