Imphal: Goods-laiden trucks remained in Jiribam district of Manipur, between Leingangpokpi and Gulathol along National Highway-37 as Kuki villagers blocked the highway at Tatbung in Tamenglong district on Monday.

Over 500 goods trucks were stranded due to the lack of security clearance along the highway, said a driver.

‘The blockaders did not listen to the CRPF jawans at the highway when told to free the road’.

According to state police the goods trucks which had been stranded since the past few days, after being escorted by a CRPF convoy, started heading for Imphal on Monday morning. However, the trucks were halted by indefinite blockade supporters in the morning at Tatbung, about 5 kilometers from Jiribam.

Kuki Zo village volunteers imposed indefinite economic blockade along the Imphal-Silchar via Jiribam national highway from Vangailhang and Tuilangkol on June 13 to protest the outbreak of violence in Jiribam.

The blockade was endorsed by the Kuki Women Union of Jiribam and Tamenglong districts.

Police said 30 loaded oil tankers, 37 loaded LPG bullets and 25 loaded trucks carrying essential goods were forced to return to Jiribam by the blockade supporters.
