Imphal: Meira Paibi (voluntary women activists) and students took up agitations in Imphal, on Thursday, against deployment of central forces in Imphal and demanded to deploy the forces in vulnerable areas of the crisis ridden state.

A large group of Meira Paibi of surrounding areas of Singjamei police station stormed at the police station demanding that no Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) will allow to stay in the surrounding areas under the jurisdiction of Singjamei police station.

Around six CAPF manned vehicles came to report at the police station as a part of the security measures for restoring peace in Manipur.

Governor Anusuiya Uikey, as assured by Union Home minister, told INDIA bloc party on Wednesday that significant security changes would be witnessed in Manipur within 10 days.

The government has started the process of constructing infrastructure with pre-fabricated materials for accommodating CAPF-50 Coys at 50 different locations across 13 districts of Manipur.

The Meira Paibi on receiving the information that some CAPF vehicles has entered Singjamei police station, a large number of Meira paibi stormed at the police station. Later, the CAPF turn back from the police station.

“There is no need for central forces in Imphal area. The central forces should be deployed at vulnerable areas” a demonstrator said.

It is meaningless to deploy CRPF in Kakwa area, instead the central forces should be deployed at red zone to control the situation of ongoing crisis, she added.

Students of DM University took up similar protest opposing staying of CAPF on DM University campus. The protestors demonstrated with a rally along NH-2 in front of Kangla Western Gate. State police blocked them near Raj Bhavan and made them leave.
