Imphal: Central government will pay full attention to the ongoing Manipur crisis and development on security will be highlighted within 10 days, governor Anusuiya Uikey told representatives of 10 like-minded political parties of INDIA bloc.
National executive member of CPI, Moirangthem Nara narrated this to reporters statement after the political group submitted a memorandum to the governor at Raj Bhavan, here on Wednesday.
The 10 like-minded political parties comprise the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee; Janata Dal (United), Manipur; All India Forward Bloc, Manipur; Nationalist Congress Party (SP), Manipur; All India Trinamool Congress, Manipur Pradesh; Shiv Sena (UBT), Manipur; Revolutionary Socialist Party, Manipur; Manipur State Council, Communist Party of India; Communist Party of India (Marxist), Manipur; and Aam Aadmi Party, Manipur.
Nara said they were told by the governor that she had met Union Home minister Amit Shah and other Union ministers and was assured that the central government would intervene in the Manipur crisis to bring a solution.
He said they have submitted a memorandum to the governor on the prolonged crisis and conflict in Manipur, especially the new incidents of killing, burning of houses, and internal displacement of about 1,000 people in the Jiribam district.
The memorandum highlighted disappointment on the violence that has been continuing since May 3 last year.
Regarding the violence in Jiribam, the memorandum claimed that it was occurred due to security lapses while central security forces deployed in the districts were withdrawn for duty during the recent Lok Sabha elections.
The political team demanded adequate security in the district to protect the displaced people when they return to their homes. They demanded necessary legal action against those miscreants involved in the ambush carried out against the state security of chief minister N. Biren Singh on June 17 along NH-37 (Imphal-Silchar via Jiribam) road.
Nara said they also demanded the immediate deployment of state security personnel in villages in Jiribam district from where villagers have fled for fear of attack and loss of lives so that they can return to their homes from the relief camps.
They also demanded similar arrangements for other districts of Manipur, including Churachandpur, Imphal, Kangpokpi, and Moreh.
The representatives of the group also demanded the deployment of adequate security along NH-37 (Imphal-Silchar via Jiribam) and NH-2 (Imphal-Dimapur) as traffic on NH-37 has been disrupted for over 10 days due to insecurity.
They demanded that the government should provide adequate escort for transport on NH-37 and NH-2 to ensure the uninterrupted flow of goods to the state.
They demanded that both the Centre and state governments to take immediate necessary action to restore peace and normalcy in Manipur.
The governor said, all efforts have been made to ensure peace and security in the state and to bring a lasting solution to the crisis. Informing the delegate about her recent visit to the national capital, the governor said, she had apprised of the prevailing situation to the President, Home minister and the Finance minister and requested to take immediate steps to stop all forms of violence, to bridge the gap between the two communities and bring about a long lasting peace in the state.
She said she had informed about the condition of the displaced people who have been taking shelter in various relief camps to the Home minister.
The governor said she had informed the Finance minister about the economic condition in the state and requested financial assistance. The governor assured the delegation that she will continue her efforts to restore peace and normalcy in the state.
Major general Ravroop Singh, IGAR (South) also called on the governor and briefed about the security situation in Jiribam district. He informed the governor about the various security measures taken up by the Assam Rifles in the district. The governor directed IGAR (South) to help the people in Jiribam keeping in view of the prevailing situation and for taking up security measures to prevent any untoward incidents further.
