Imphal: Bomb blast injured a minor boy and burnt down a car at Bhramapur Nahabam Leikai in Imphal East district of Manipur on Tuesday evening.

Unknown assailants attacked the Bhramapur residence of Dr. Mayanglambam Amitkumar, a neurosurgeon at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) hospital, with two bombs.

Amitkumar is also a Wushu coach and member of the Wushu Association of Manipur.

A four-wheeler belonging to Amitkumar was caught in fire when a bomb blasted under it.

The injured child is a 7 years old son of Amitkumar’s elder brother, Mayanglambam Sachidananda, who is currently a coach in state Youth Affairs and Sports department.

The child was taken to a nearby hospital.

According to locals, two unknown persons arrived on a two-wheeler and asked for the residence of someone named Gunamani. When the locals said there was no such person in the area, the two unknown individuals then asked for Amitkumar’s residence, which the locals identified.

Later, the two unknown persons hurled two bombs into the courtyard of Amitkumar’s residence. One of the bombs exploded under Amitkumar’s car, while the other remained unexploded in front of the car.

Amitkumar stated that there had been no monetary demands or enmity with any individual or group. He appealed to those involved in the crime to clarify their intention of the threat.

A team from the bomb disposal squad rushed to the spot and recovered the unexploded bomb.

Police have registered a case in connection with the bomb attack.
