Imphal: A one day sensitisation workshop on the HIV/AIDS (Prevention & Control) Act 2017 was held on Thursday at Manipur Univerisiy (MU), Canchipur.
The programme was organised by department of Vocational Studies and Skill Development (DVSSD), MU with support from Manipur State AIDS Control Society.
It was inaugurated by Prof. Naorem Lokendra Singh, vice-chancellor, MU in presence of Prof. W. Chandbabu Singh, registrar, MU, Dr. H. Diamond Sharma, joint director (CST) MACS and Prof. Th. Purnima Devi, dean of School of Social Sciences and head, DVSSD, MU.
The vice-chancellor stressed the need of introducing educational course of two or three credits for the undergraduate programs on HIV/AIDS and drugs. He entrusted the department of Vocational Studies and Skill Development, MU to take initiatives in preparing syllabus for the same.
If students are given proper knowledge and education on HIV/AIDS and drugs and after completion of the courses, they can get placements in many NGOs working in this field, he said.
Phanjoubam Lanngamba, Asst. director (D&P) MACS, Omajit Leishangthem, IEC & Mainstreaming, MACS, Dr. Deepak Kshetrimayum, visiting faculty, DVSSD, MU and Dr. Sapam Dilipkumar Singh, Asst. professor, department of Law, MU took sessions of basics of HIV/AIDS, HIV/AIDS Act, Human Rights and Constitutional Rights and Grievance Redressal Mechanism under the Act respectively.
