Imphal: Security forces in Manipur recovered a large number of arms, ammunition and explosives from Kangpokpi and Bishnupur districts in three days, during their search operations and area domination conducted in the fringe and vulnerable areas of the state.
One improvised projectile launcher, one improvised grenade launcher and two improvised projectiles were recovered on Monday from Kangpokpi. One 9 mm Uzi sub-machine gun along with a magazine, eight live rounds of 9 mm, one .32 pistol along with a magazine, two hand grenades, two 80 WP smoke grenades and two 27 detonators were recovered on the next day from the same district.
One .303 rifle with a magazine, two 12-inch single-bore barrel guns, one improvised projectile launcher, one improvised mortar, six no. 36 HE hand grenades, two 2-inch mortar ILL rounds, two improvised mortar rounds, one improvised explosive device weighing 3 kg, four 9 mm ball live rounds, one 5.56 mm INSAS live round, one 7.62 mm CTN, sixty-two 7.62 mm fired cases, forty-five 5.56 mm fired cases, one 2-inch mortar carrying case were recovered on Wednesday from Kangpokpi district.
Two modified 6-inch mortar tubes (Country Made Pompi), 11 live Pompi rounds, 10 fired Pompi cases, one 7.62 mm SLR alongwith one Magazine, four 7.62 live rounds, eleven fired 7.62 empty cases, one 9 mm Pistol with one empty magazine, two 12 bore single barrel gun, two no. 36 HE hand grenades without detonators, one Chinese hand grenade, one WP smoke grenade, two Bicart strips (15 cm each) and six NT sets with one charger were recovered from the foothills of Dampi Range, Bishnupur, on Wednesday.
In connection with the incident of arms looting case of 5th IRB, Chingarel, Imphal East by unruly mob on Tuesday night, police have arrested six persons on Wednesday and they have been remanded into police custody by judicial magistrate. Four INSAS rifles, one AK Ghatak, 2 magazines of SLR and 16 small boxes of 9 mm ammunition which are suspected to have been looted from 5th IRB have also been recovered by Manipur Police.
In order to repel violent mobs including armed miscreants trying to storm MPTC, Pangei, security forces resorted to the use of legal force. During the incident, one person succumbed to injuries and three persons sustained injuries on Tuesday, Manipur Police Control Room said on Thursday. On Tuesday, security forces apprehended a cadre of UNLF (K) near Namlee Market, under Kasom Khullen Police station, Kamjong district. A case has been registered in this regard for further investigation, the police control room said.
During the last 24 hours, the situation in the state was tense with sporadic incidents of firing but under control, it added.
The state police department appeals to public to return the ‘looted arms, ammunition and explosives’ to the police or nearest security forces immediately.
