Imphal: Khoupum villagers demanded to bring a solution to save the career of students displaced by the Meitei-Kuki crisis.
The government need to end the present crisis as there is a big apprehension of losing career of many internally displaced students (IDSs) if peace is not brought with the coming of the new academic session, said a villager of Khoupum village (in Tamenglong district of Manipur), Daisinglun Pamei.
Pamei was speaking to reporters on Sunday while handing over essential food items to the relief camp opened at Leimaram SS Girl’s Hostel. He said thousands of people both in hills and valley are suffering for the last over 8 months due to the present unrest. Among the displaced people there are thousands of internally displaced students who are not able to get proper education. If necessary steps are not taken immediately with the coming of the new academic session then thousands of students might lost their future career, said Pamei.
He urged the government to put more effort to bring a solution of the present unrest and to bring peace and harmony. Pamei appealed both the communities (Kukis and Meiteis) to stop violence and end enmity.
An inmate of the relief camp, Abig Leichonbam expressed appreciation and gratitude to the villagers of Khoupum for coming to provide the edible items for the relief camp. He said the government has been providing two meals a day for the last over eight months. But during this period, the IDPs are not able to get a source of income so that they could start a life after the crisis, he added. He said he is not able to buy a single pencil for her daughter as there is no earning for the last over 8 months.
He appealed the government to provide necessary assistance for the IDPs so that they could earn for themselves while staying at various relief camps and pre-fabricated houses. At least 137 IDPs from Churachandpur district have been staying at the relief camp.
