Imphal: A combined team of state police and central forces has arrested two persons in connection with the killing of SDPO Ch. Anand ADC office, Chikim village, Moreh (Indo-Myanmar border in Manipur) on Monday evening.
The arrested person has been identified as one Philips Khongsai, former Indian Army officer and presently president of Moreh Youth Club and Thangminlien Mate.
Police sources said the duo were nabbed acting on an information. A combined team of state police along with central forces cordoned the area, Philips and Thangminlien were apprehended at around 6 pm.
While the apprehended persons were brought at Moreh police station, huge numbers of women folks of the area gathered and demanded to release the two persons.
To disperse the gathering, the combined team fired tear gas shells and live rounds. During the incident one women was injured.
Sources say Philips Khongsai and Thangminlien Mate are at Assam Rifles’ custody at Moreh.
Anand was shot dead reportedly using a sniper rifle on October 31, last year while inspecting a new helipad at Eastern Shine School, Moreh.
It was also reported earlier that Philips Khongsai along with some of his companions had threatened Anand on October 30 not to set up new helipad in Moreh.
Chief minister N. Biren Singh in his social media post had stated that “Deeply saddened by the cold-blooded killing of SDPO Chingtham Anand, OC Moreh Police this morning. His dedication to serve and protect the people will always be remembered. The perpetrators will be brought to justice”.
