Imphal: Manipur Police has arrested three persons for misusing social media attempting to incite communal disharmony by spreading false rumours.
In the meantime, the state Home department has issued order to revoke suspension of mobile internet service in the state except in seven areas.
On Saturday Manipur Police successfully foiled an attempt to incite Communal disharmony by spreading false rumours. Police encountered a message disseminated on social media which contained misleading information aimed at inciting tension between communities. Swiftly responding to this threat, police took immediate action, successfully tracked and arrested two individuals on Sunday responsible for the
propagation of the false message in connection with the case registered at Lamphel Police station, Imphal West, Manipur Police Control Room said.
Manipur Police also arrested one person for circulating false and fabricated message in social media in connection with an FIR case registered at Porompat Police station, Imphal East.
During the last 24 hours, the situation in the State was tense but under control with sporadic incidents of firing and congregation of protestors, the police control room said.
Search operations were conducted by security forces in the fringe and vulnerable areas of Kakching and Thoubal districts, it added.
Manipur Police appeals the public not to circulate wrong information
which may incite violence and disturb the law and order and that ‘strict legal action will be taken up against any such defaulter’.
It appeals to general public not to believe in rumours and be aware of false videos. It also appeals to public to return the ‘looted arms, ammunition and explosives’ to the police or nearest security forces immediately.
The Home department has revoked the order of suspension of mobile data services, which has been extended in connection with the volatile law and order situation in the state.
Considering the prevailing law and order situation which is reportedly improving in
the past few days and inconveniences faced by the general public due to the long duration of such suspension, the state government has decided to relax the suspension of internet/mobile data, MMS services in the territorial jurisdiction of Manipur except for the mobile towers catering service of the stretch of 2 Km radius along adjoining areas between districts of Chandel and Kakching; Churachandpur and Bishnupur; Churachandpur and Kakching; Kangpokpi and Imphal West; Kangpokpi and Imphal East; Kangpokpi and Thoubal; and Tengnoupal and Kakching, the order mentioned.
Manipur has been in communal chaos since May 3, the day Kuki launched attacks to Meitei community.
