Plea to take part in mass missed call campaign for inclusion of Meitei in ST list

Imphal: Meetei (Meitei) Tribe Union (MMTU) has appealed to all the sections of people to take part in the “Mass missed call campaign for the inclusion of meetei (meitei) in scheduled tribe list of Indian constitution” campaign to support the inclusion of Meetei/Meitei in the scheduled tribe list of the Indian Constitution.

In connection with the movement, a press conference was held at the office of MMTU, Soibam Leikai Wangkhei Khunou, Imphal East on Saturday.

The press conference was attended by representatives of MMTU, Kangleipak Kanba Lup (KKL), World Meetei Council (WMC), Salai Kanba Lup (SKL) and Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee, Manipur (STDCM).

Administrative Secretary of MMTU, Mutum Churamani said the said the campaign will start on November 20 and continue till December 20.

He said during the campaign any individual must give a miss call at +918732042511.

Churamani said after giving a missed call at the said number, an SMS will be received asking for the information of the individual including name, address and others. The individual needs to send the details which is mentioned in the SMS.

He said the campaign targets a response from at least 5 lakh individuals to support the movement for the inclusion of Meetei/Meitei in the scheduled tribe list and to get the rights of each individual.

“There is a strong possibility to meet the demand if we reach the target,” Churamani said.

Secretary of KKL, Ngamkheingakpa Luwang said Meetei/Meitei community has been living in the society at higher level, however, the community has become vulnerable with the present scenario of the society. For the safeguard of the community getting scheduled tribe status under the Indian Constitution is necessary.

He appealed to all sections of the society to take part in the campaign.
