Imphal: A team Mao Police station of Manipur on Thursday recovered Brown Sugar concealed in a van in Senapati district during frisking and checking.
The police team were on duty at Pudunamei along Pudunamei-Kedima road, about 6 km East from the police station. They saw one blue Omni van coming from Senapati side towards Nagaland.
While the vehicle was around 100 metres away from the team, the driver of the said vehicle immediately stopped the vehicle and quickly ran away towards the jungle in a suspicious manner as there wasn’t enough space to turn the vehicle back and flee as it’s a inter village road, a police report said.
Suspicious of the situation, the police team went to the vehicle and conducted a search. On checking the vehicle, items suspected to be drugs were found concealed on both sides of the rear door of the vehicle.
As requested Ningreingam Leisan, executive magistrate was deputed for doing the necessary procedures. On checking 47 soap cases were found concealed on both the side of the rear door of the vehicle, the police report said.
The drug weighted 608 gm (without the weight of the soap case), it added.
The drug and the van were seized and a regular case has been registered at Mao policestation. Further investigation underway, police said.
