Imphal: Mass sit-in rally staged in Manipur demanding for justice of two students who were allegedly killed by Kuki militants and to immediately book the murderers.
“We are not asking asking to listen to one side of the story. We are asking to see the reality in this 5 months long crisis in Manipur,” said one of the protestor at Sagolband Moirang Leirak, Imphal West along NH-37 on Sunday.
The protest rally was organised by Sagolband Apunba Lup (SALUP).
A protestor, Teresa Devi Arambam, told reporters that October has come, people of Manipur are still suffering. Manipur is still burning and mothers and people have not sleeping since the crisis erupted.
After the photographs of the missing of the two students namely Hijam Linthoingambi and Phijam Hemanjit surfaced on social media, people already know that both the students who were still kids were mercilessly killed by suspected Kuki militants, she added.
People are asking to take immediate action to find the bodies of the two students so that the bereaved families can perform their last rites, she said.
Traditionally family do not sleep until body the deceased is cremated after performing the rituals of last rites. Since the missing of the two students respective parents have not been sleeping, she said. She urged the authority concerned to handover the body to the bereaved family.
Protestors hold placards embedded “We want justice”, “Stop violence, stop war”, “Punish narco-terrorists”, “Punish the criminals” and others.
Meira Paibi of Langjing Achouba Makha Leikai also staged similar protest.
In various streets of the Imphal city women protestors were seen staging sit-ins in their respective localities. Women vendors of Singjamei demonstrated the protest.
