Imphal: Adolescent friendly Drop-in-Centre (DIC), ‘a first of its kind in the country’, was inaugurated on Wednesday at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), Imphal.
The centre was inaugurated by Haobam Rosita, project director, Manipur State AIDS Control Society (MACS) in presence of Dr. Deben Singh, director, JNIMS, Dr. Khumukcham Lokeshor, medical superintendent, JNIMS and Dr. K. Shantibala, HoD Psychiatry department, JNIMS.
The Centre will provide adolescent specific and friendly HIV intervention model among adolescent who may be expose to the risk of HIV infections like drug use, said MACS.
The centre will encourage participation of adolescents to seek existing HIV services through adolescent friendly approaches and provide information, counselling, education on sexual and reproductive health (SRH), HIV screening/prevention, mental health, infectious and non-communicable diseases.
It will also find ways to develop a Standard Operating Procedure for HIV interventions among adolescents and to standardise an efficient outreach model, including the service packages friendly to adolescent.
The Psychiatry department of JNIMS will be running the DIC with support from MACS and Project Accelerate.
