Imphal: The Central Bureau of investigation (CBI) has arrested four accused in ongoing investigation of cases related to violence in Manipur.
CBI had registered two said cases on August 23 on the request of Manipur Government and taken over the investigation of these cases earlier registered by state police on the complaints of parents of minor victims vide FIR No. 584 (7) 2023 dated 08.07.2023 at Police Station Imphal and FIR No. 1009 (7) 2023 dated 19.07.2023 at Police Station Lamplel.
During the investigation of these cases, the persons have been arrested.
“The arrested accused will be produced before the Competent Court at Guwahati (designated as per the orders of the Supreme Court),” the CBI said.
Two minor children, who accompanied the said arrested accused during transit from Imphal (Manipur) to Guwahati (Assam), have been handed over to District Child Protection officer, Kamrup Metro district for their welfare, protection and care, it added.
The four persons were arrested from Henglep area, Churachandpur district on Sunday.
They have been identified as one Paominlun Haokip, 35, S Malswan Haokip, 40, Lhingneichong Baite and Tinnuphing (female).
Chief minister N. Biren Singh said after some photographs of the two missing students surfaced on social media, central government under the instruction of Union Home minister Amit Shah, deputed a team of CBI led by its special director. With the swift action by the combined team the suspected main accused of the crime was able to arrest on Sunday.
He thanked the CBI team, Indian Army, other security forces and state police for able to book the culprits involved in the murder case of the two students.
Biren said the investigation will continue to book more culprits if involved in the crime and the government will extend necessary assistance in order to give severe punishment for the heinous crimes that were committed against two students.
