Imphal: Bishnupur district Deputy commissioner has declared outbreak of African Swine Fever in pigs at a farm in Moirang Kokilbon Leikai, Kha Thinungei Block, Bishnupur.
The farm belongs to Ph. Budhachandra Singh.
In view of the impending threat of the disease, it has become expedient to issue containment measures to prevent spread of the disease in the area.
The district magistrate Lourembam Bikram, in exercise of the powers under section 6 of the “Prevention and Control of Infectious and Contagious Diseases in Animals Act, 2009” notified with immediate as “Controlled Areas” for African Swine Fever at the farm of Ph. Budhachandra Singh of Moirang Kokilbon.
Under Section 7 of “The Prevention and Control of Infectious and Contagious Diseases in Animals Act, 2009”, the district Magistrate declared the containment measures in the geographical area with immediate effect.
No Pig shall be moved from the place where it is kept within the controlled area. There is ban on sale of pig, pork, feed and related items. The areas falling within 1km radius from the Epicentre of the disease is declared as “Infected Zone” and areas falling within 9km radius from the Infected zone is declared as “Surveillance Zone” for taking up control and containment procedures and areas falling outside the “Surveillance Zone” is declared as “Free Zone”.
Any persons, institution or organisation found violating any of these containment measures shall be deemed to have committed an offence punishable under the said Act, the district Magistrate said.
The outbreak of the swine fever in Bishnupur was detected after the same was detected in Imphal West recently.
