3 more arrested including BJYM vice-president over Sega Road firing case

Imphal: Three more arrested including one vice-president of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), Manipur Pradesh who were allegedly involved in connection with Sega Road firing case.

The firing injured five persons including one woman.

They were remanded into police custody till Wednesday next after they were produced before the Duty Magistrate, Imphal West on Wednesday evening.

The three arrested persons have been identified as one Nongthombam Tony Meitei, 36 son of late N Kumar of Langthabal Lep Mayai Leikai presently staying at Nungoi Makha Leikai who is also the vice president of BJYM Manipur Pradesh; Ningthoujam Vicky, 30, son of N Bhorot of Kongba Nandeibam Leikai and Khaidem Nibas, 33, son of Kh Lukhoi of Singjamei Wangma Pebiya Pandit Leikai.

The firing incident took placed on Saturday last at around 10.40pm at Sega Road Khwairakpam Leikai, Imphal West while some armed miscreants allegedly tried to abduct one Khaidem Seitajit alias Bobo from his residence after locals including Meira Paibi of the area tried to stop the activities of the miscreants.

It is reported that the three individuals were arrested from the disclosure of Ningombam Alex and Gurumayum Rayban during interrogation at police custody who were arrested earlier in connection with the case.

Police said one four wheeler (Hyundai CRETA) white in colour which was allegedly used during the day of incidence by the armed miscreants was recovered and seized from the possession of the three accused.

Members of JAC formed in connection with the firing incident visited the two individuals who sustained major bullet injuries at JNIMS Ortho ward on Wednesday.

The two injured who has been undergoing treatment at JNIMS were RK Medhabati Devi, 50, wife of RK Manao of Sega Road Konjeng Hajari Leikai and Nongmaithem Priyananda alias Ton, 43, son of late N. Mani of Sega Road Konjeng Hajari Leikai.

Hospital authority said that Medhabati sustained to bullet injury on her left shin and the bone has been fractured. Priyananda sustained to multiple bullet injuries, two on his left leg and one on his right leg.

Medhabati told reporters that she will never forgive those armed miscreants.

“My husband is totally blind. I am the sole bread earner in the family. Who is going to take care of my husband,” she said.

Priyananda who will be participating 37th National Games as a referee in ‘Sepak Takraw’ event said, “I went out from my residence after hearing that some miscreants were trying to abduct one person, but not with an intension to join the mob. I heard some rounds firing in the air and I stay still thinking that they are firing in the air. But those miscreants aimed and started shooting towards the mob. After that I received the bullet injuries.”

He said shooting to innocent public is an act of goondaraj. Government should take stringent action towards who misused arms.

Convenor of the JAC, Chongtham Iboyaima told reporters at JNIMS that the JAC thanked state police for their swift action while arresting five accused.

He said Manoharmayum Barish Sharma who claimed to be president of BJYM Manipur Pradesh who led the armed miscreants is yet to be arrested.

It is heard that Barish applied for anticipatory bail to concern police station, he said. He cautioned that if any MLA or minister found putting pressure to the police to defend Barish then JAC will storm at the residence of respective MLA or minister.

He said Priyananda will not be able to live a normal life as he has permanent bone fracture injury.

The JAC appreciated local MLA, Nishikant Sapam for providing all the financial assistance for the treatment of all the injured pesons.
