Imphal: Manipur Police and Assam Rifles on Sunday recovered a gun and 10 grenades from Chingkhei Ching Range in Imphal East district.
The Assam Rifles on September 21 recovered a cache of arms and ammunitions from Tengnoupal district.
The gun and grenades were recovered acting on a specific intelligence source by a joint team of Assam Rifles and personnel of Lamlai Police station. The joint team carried out a search in the general area and recovered one .303 Rifle and 10 grenades. The recovered items have been handed over to the police, a press note said.
Based on an information received on September 21, the Assam Rifles check post at the village detected a vehicle approaching their position. When challenged, the individual in the vehicle hastily retreated into the nearby woods, abandoning a Kenbo vehicle laden with a suspicious cargo, the Assam Rifles said.
An exhaustive examination of the abandoned vehicle and its contents led to the recovery of one 9 mm pistol, two country made mortars, two country made Single Shot gun, ammunition and war like stores. Despite a meticulous search, the suspect could not be apprehended, it added.
The recovered arms and the vehicle have been handed over to Moreh Police station for further necessary legal action, it said.
