People’s Disobedience Movement launched in Manipur

Imphal: Meira Paibi (traditional women torch bearer volunteers) has launched People’s Disobedience Movement on Friday against against the state and central government for not taking concrete positive action to bring an end to about 4 months long Manipur crisis.

The people’s disobedience movement was launched following a resolution taken during a meeting held at a community hall of Uripok Khoisnam Leikai, Imphal West on Friday.

“All government employees should not attend their offices, except for essential services including electricity, water supply, medical staffs,” Sharmila Naoshekpam, a Meira Paibi said in connection with the movement.

Any government employees who fail to follow the resolution shall take their own consequences for any unwanted incidents, she cautioned.

Sharmila said for the last nearly 4 months violence has been continuing in connection with the present turmoil at various areas of the state.

However, state and central government have failed to bring back normalcy. With the reason the Meira Paibi took the resolution for launching People’s Disobedience Movement, she added.

She appealed all the women folks to cooperate with the movement. During the movement all the government activities for both state and central will be boycotted indefinitely, she said.

The relief camps set up at various areas in valley area will not accept any sort of relief materials donated by central para military forces as they cannot supress the people by providing some aids to the displaced people, she said.

Meira Paibi have also put restriction on movements of all central forces in the state.
