Manipur people pray for peace on Krishna Janmashtami

Imphal: The Hindus in Manipur prayed Lord Krishna to bring an end to the present Manipur crisis on festival of Krishna Janmashtami.

People thronged at Shri Shri Govindaji temple, ISKON Mani Mandir in Imphal and other temples in the state.

Manipur governor Anusuiya Uikey in her greetings said `Krishna Janmashtami celebrates the birth of Lord Krishna an incarnation of God on this earth. The festival is celebrated by the followers of Hinduism with gaiety and fervour all over the country. The devotees believe that the Lord undertook His earthly sojourn to teach mankind universal love and ‘Karma’.

“On this day, let us remind ourselves of the teachings of Lord Krishna and propagate love and affection for all and usher in an era of peace and prosperity in Manipur,” the governor said.

Chief minister N.Biren Singh writes on his Facebook wall, “Warm wishes and greetings to everyone on the auspicious occasion of Krishna Janmashtami.” “May lord Krishna deliver peace, harmony and prosperity to all!”

“The over 4 months long ethnic clash has brought untold woes to all the people in the state. Firings, killings, agitations, curfews, confrontations, blockades have paralysed normalcy in the state. The government is paralysed and remains impotent. I pray Lord Krishna for an end to the crisis,” a devotee in Imphal told Pothashang.

There was full curfew in five valley districts on Wednesday. Police reported that the situation was tense with sporadic incidents of firing and congregation of protestors. However, the curfew has been relaxed from 5 am to 6 am on Thursday.
