Tonnes of Myanmar areca nuts found transporting through Indigo Cargo service at Imphal on ‘daily basis’

Imphal: Over 10 tonnes of Areca nut imported from Myanmar side have been found transporting to three big cities of India on daily basis through Indigo cargo service from Bir Tikendrajit International Airport, Imphal.

This was revealed in a video clip sent to mediaperons, in which a lady explains about the transport of the areca nuts cutting greeny bags with a knife exposing the nuts.

The nuts were to be transported to Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Ahmedabad, she said, stating that this has been going on since the past so many years.

A syndicate comprising of seven members are doing the business of the Areca nuts, she added.

These areca nuts was reportedly transported from Kassom Khullen, Kamjong district, a source said.

Some high figures, including politicians, are allegedly involved in the illegal business, the lady said.

Indigo Cargo service charges Rs 200 per kg of Areca Nuts for transporting from the state as fare, she added.
