Imphal: Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum (ITLF) on Thursday afternoon announced Emergency Shutdown in Churachandpur district, a Kuki dominated area in Manipur, following alleged attack by Meitei militants.
There has been tense situation since the past two days in areas bordering Churachandpur and Bishnupur districts.
“Lonphai, Khousabung, Kangvai and Sugnu areas are under attack by #MeiteiMilitants. ITLF calls for Emergency Shutdown with immediate effect in Lamka district,” said ITLF in a post on Twitter.
The Kuki community says Churachandpur district as Lamka district. Their is no official district called Lamka in Manipur.
“During the last 24 hours, the situation in the state was tense with sporadic incidents of firing…,” Manipur Police Control Room said on Wednesday.
The connectivity beween Churachandpur and capital Imphal has been almost cut off following the Meitei-Kuki crisis that erupted on May 3, the day Kuki launched attack to Meitei villages.
As the connectivity has been cut off, patients with critical diseases have to be taken to Aizawl for treatment as the district hospital has limited medical facilities. Moving from Churachandpur to Aizawl on road takes about 15 hours.
