Imphal: Suspected Kuki militants in full combat dress took out march past during Independence Day celebration at a sports ground in Churachandpur on Tuesday.
This could be the first in the history where people in combat dress parading march past in the Independence Day.
The scene went viral on social media. The crowd were applauding the group on the ground.
The Independence Day was celebrated across the state at district levels organised by district administrations.
The state level function was held at Imphal in presence of chief minister N.Biren Singh.
Retired Lt Gen L Nishikanta Singh tweets, “Shocked to see participation of fully armed Kuki militants in I-day parade at Churachandpur. Only security forces display weapons on parade. Kukis sending a message -can get away with anything. Meiteis have to trust in Govt but better be prepared to fight with whatever they have.”
Sharing videos of march past contingents in Churachandpur, Billie Guarino, a faculty member at department of English, Jamia Milia Islamia tweets, “…The National Flag shall not be dipped in salute to any person or thing.” Respecting the national flag is a fundamental expression of patriotism and unity. This is the classic example of “trying too hard”.
Welcome to Independent India 🇮🇳 and happy Independence day. These Kukis should learn that abiding Indian Law & Order is very much a part of living in India. Being recent immigrants to India, they might not know anything about the Indian Law. Swift and appropriate legal action should be initiated against these criminals before these people become a matter of National Security.
