Displaced people mainly from Moreh, Churachandpur and other places stay at the said relief centre opened at Akampat Relief Centre, Imphal East.
The displaced people marched a rally from Akampat relief centre to meet chief minister N. Biren Singh. Police blocked the rally at Singjamei bridge and four representatives were allowed to meet Biren.
The demonstration took under the banner “Protest rally against Narco refugee Kuki militants”. The protestors raise slogans ‘no separate administration in Manipur’, ‘we want to return to Churachandpur and Moreh’, ‘go back Kuki refugees, go back Assam Rifles’, ‘ we condemned central forces for allowing to burn Meitei houses at Moreh’.
One of the relief camp inmate told that they want to go home. “How can we return to our home without providing proper security.”
Amid the crisis, Kuki militants are frequently attacking the Meitei people at different places? What is the use of deploying huge number of central forces?”
She said the central forces should go back from Manipur if the central forces are not able to take any step to stop the violence.
The protestor said in the last over 70 days no action has been taken against the Kuki militants by the central forces. The central forces took immediate action against any protest that is carried in Imphal in which many have been injured. With immediate action from Rapid Action Force personnel many protestor in Imphal city have been injured. “Why RAF fails to take any action while two vehicles of RAF were arsoned at Sapermeina by Kuki protestors and Kuki militants?”
She said the act of central forces shows that central government wants to suppress the Meitei people in Manipur. “Where are the central forces that have already deployed in Manipur?”
One of the representatives told reporters after meeting CM that they were told that he has instructed to send additional forces at Moreh. The chief have also instructed commanding officer of Assam Rifles deputed at Moreh area to take necessary action against Kuki militants.
He also told them that the government is trying to arrange proper space for displaced people to stay.
