Imphal: Chief minister N. Biren Singh on Wednesday launched the Rashtriya Poshan Maah, 2021 and Matru Vandana Saptah, 2021 in a simple function held at the chief minister’s secretariat, here.
The Rashtriya Poshan Maah is celebrated during the month of September every year to encourage the masses to join hands with the government in addressing issues related to malnutrition amongst young children and women, and to ensure health and nutrition for everyone.
Matru Vandana Saptah, 2021 would be held till September 7, 2021 to create awareness about the noble scheme.
Secretary to chief minister and secretary (social welfare) Ningthoujam Geoffrey and other high ranking officials of the department also attended the function.
The tentative calendars and T-shirts of Rashtriya Poshan Maah, 2021 and Matru Vandana Saptah, 2021 were also released at the occasion.
Senapati district administration in collaboration with ICDS, Senapati launched the Poshan Maah at DC conference hall.
Deputy commissioner, Senapati, Mahesh Chaudhari, said Prime Minister’s Overarching Scheme for Holistic Nourishment (POSHAN) Abhiyaan was launched in March 2018 with a multi- ministerial convergence mission to resolve malnutrition among children, adolescent girls, pregnant women and lactating mothers in a targeted approach to reduce stunting, under-nutrition, low birth weight and anaemia.
Poshan Abhiyaan seeks to synergize efforts of key stakeholders by leveraging technology and intended to convert nutrition awareness into Jan Andolan to achieve the goals, he added.
He said DPM, ZEO and related DLO’s have bigger roles in reaching out the goals of the Prime Minister’s vision. He also said village chairmen and secretaries must be called to take an active part when necessary since it has become a people movement. He also desired to set up a model school at Katomei Primary School in the district. He said the Senapati district is doing well in fighting against malnutrition.
The DC, Senapati also led the oath-taking and followed by the members present to make children, adolescents and women Healthy and free from malnutrition.
The programme was attended by district level officers and sub- divisional officers.
