Imphal: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is a living legend, who has a vision and firm determination to uplift the needy and weaker sections of the society, chief minister N. Biren Singh said on Friday.
Prime Minister’s gifts to Manipur like ILPS, National Sports University, oxygen plants, free vaccines and free ration during Covid-19 pandemic would be remembered forever, Biren said.
His noble schemes like Ayushman Bharat, PM Kishan and other schemes had benefited crores of people, he added.

To mark the birthday of Modi, the chief minister led a mass cleanliness drive and distributed gifts and sweetmeats to destitute children and sanitation workers, patients and attendants of JNIMS (Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences) Hospital.
He also announced the ‘Chief Minister’s Health for All’ scheme for the people of Manipur and launching ‘Elderline’ toll free helpline number for senior citizens.
In the early morning Biren took part in the mass cleanliness drive at Khwairamband Shamu Makhong. It was organised by Imphal Municipal Corporation, Imphal West and Imphal East District Police, Narcotics and Affairs of Border, Manipur and Manipur Fire Service.
Similar cleanliness drives were also organised at Manipur Secretariat, government departments and district offices.
The ‘Health for All’ is the vision of Narendra Modi. In line with this vision, the state government had introduced the Chief Ministergi Hakshelgi Tengbang Scheme under which 4.19 lakh beneficiaries had been enrolled as on August 31, 2021, he added.
Stating that the objective of the scheme is to conduct primary health check-up for all the citizens of Manipur, Biren informed that the primary focus would be early identification and diagnosis of 10 diseases i.e. hypertension, diabetes, heart disease, Kidney ailments, chronic respiratory disease like COPD, mental health problems, TB and three common cancers i.e. oral, breast and cervical.
He said the broad components are detection, treatment and follow-up. The beneficiaries would be given medicines at their doorsteps, he said and added that the scheme would especially benefit elderly patients above 60 years, bed-ridden patients and non-communicable disease patients, who are not on regular follow-up or who have not visited health center due to financial or physical problems.
Regarding ‘Elderline’, the Biren said it is a helpline for senior citizens with toll-free number – 14567, where they may seek help if they are bothered or harassed by anybody. He added that they may also seek assistance regarding old-age pension, healthcare, Maintenance Act, legal assistance, mental health issues, homeless, etc.
The helpline, which would be run jointly by the State Social Welfare Department, NISD and ministry of social justice and empowerment would remain active from 8 am to 8 pm daily, he said.
