Imphal: Manipur veterinary and animal husbandry department has cautioned the owners of livestock specially horse and ponies colt not to let loose of the animals on streets.
In a public appeal the department said letting loose of livestock and straying on the streets is not only a penal offence liable to be prosecuted under the Indian Penal Code, 1973 but also under the provisions of the Cattle-Trespass Act, 1871.
It said the number of livestock specially horse and ponies colt let loose by their owners and thereby straying on the roads of Imphal City are not only a nuisance causing inconveniences to the public but also have been a cause of several motor accidents leading to even loss of life.
It appeals to the people of Manipur in general and the livestock owners in particular to take proper care of their livestock and not to let loose them from their respective sheds or compound so as to avoid any unintended consequences to the public.
Owners of horses and ponies colt who have no facilities or no proper facilities to take proper care of their animals are requested to avail of the facilities provided by the Government of Manipur located at Marjing Pony Complex at Pangei, Imphal East.
