Imphal: Imphal East district police suspended one police personnel of its commando unit on Friday in connection with alleged assaulting doctor in front of chief minister’s residence of Luwangshangbam, Imphal East on Thursday evening.
Superintendent of police of Imphal East, N. Herojit in an order said a disciplinary proceeding is being contemplated against constable Collin Kshethrimayum of commando unit Imphal East district for his grave misconduct and dereliction to duty on Thursday at about 8:00 pm.
The disciplinary action was taken under Assam Police Manual Rule number 66, Part III with immediate effect and until further order.
During the period of his suspension, the headquarter of Collin Kshetrimayum shall be at Reserved Line, Porompat, Imphal East. He shall not leave his headquarter without obtaining prior permission of SP, Imphal East. He will get subsistence allowance as admissible under rules during the period of his suspension, the order said.
In the FIR lodged by the victim Dr K. Soreingam mentioned that he along with his wife Dr K Lumthing RV were coming back from the hospital (CMC hospital) after conducting an emergency operation.
The car was stopped by the police and asked them the reason of being on road in the night. Manipur has night curfew starting from 6 pm. Dr Soreingnam alleged that he was slapped twice and asked his identity. Despite telling the policemen that he is a doctor, one of the policemen assaulted him with his rifle stock, leaving him unconscious for minutes, he complained. He alleged that the two policemen were under the influence of intoxication.
