Imphal: Kakching battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (South) foiled cross-border smuggling of contraband near Chairel Lamkhai on Thursday.
During routine checking at Vehicle Check Post, troops of Assam Rifles recovered 300 packets of Win cigarettes and 420 kg of betel from a vehicle.The cost of the recovered items is estimated to be worth Rs 7.17 Lakh, the Assam Rifles said.
The apprehended smugglers and contraband items have been handed over to Customs department, Pallel for further investigation.
