Imphal: Imphal West Police commando on Monday recovered 18 baskets of betel leaves from three vehicles at Kanglatongbi.
The vehicles, two Maruti vans bearing registration numbers MN 01W-9120 and MN 01W-8725, and a Maruti WagonR bearing registrationnumber MN 03 A-2837 were intercepted at Kanglatongbi by the police team which acted under the supervision of superintendent of police Dr S. Ibomcha Singh.
The two Maruti vans were both loaded with seven baskets of betel leaf each and the Maruti WagonR with 4 baskets of betel leaf.
The drivers of the vehicles, Chingakham Surchandra Singh, 24, son of Ch. Ningthoujao Singh of Tairenpokpi Awang leikai, Wangkhem Sanjit Singh, 27, son of W. Sanaton Singh of Changangei Awang leikai and Khwairakpam Manglem Singh, 34, son of Kh. Ponam of Kangpokpi bazaar, revealed that the consignment was lifted from an unknown godown in Keithelmanbi, Kangpokpi district and is estimated to be worth Rs 5, 40,000 approximately and belongs to RS transports, police said.
The consignments that were being lifted is total violation of lockdown. The consignments along with the drivers and the vehicles are were handed over to Sekmai Police station for further necessary legal actions, it added.
