Imphal: Tengnoupal Battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (South) foiled cross-border narcotics trafficking of drugs worth Rs 3.4 crore near Tengnoupal on Thursday.
During routine patrolling, troops of Assam Rifles observed a suspicious individual hiding in the jungle near a pineapple farm area. On seeing the troops approaching, the individual tried to escape but was apprehended after a short chase, the Assam Rifles said on Friday.
On frisking, the individual was found to be carrying 450 grams of Brown Sugar and 50,000 WY (World is Yours) tablets. The cost of the narcotics recovered is appreciated to be approximately Rs 3.4 crore, it said.
The narcotics and the drug trafficker were handed over to Tengnoupal Police for further investigation, it added.
