Imphal: A combined team of Assam Police and Kangpokpi Police of Manipur rescued two Assamese from the hands of kidnappers and arrested one kidnapper on Saturday.
An information was received by Kangpokpi police at about 8 pm of Thursday that three Assamese who came to Kangpokpi were kidnapped at around 1.30 pm on Wednesday, police said.
One of the kidnapped person was set released on Thursday evening and asked him to bring Rs 50 lakh as ransom money in order to free the remaining two persons, it added.
The release of one of the kidnapped person came to the knowledge of Kangpokpi Police after he reached Bokajan, Assam on Friday morning. After coordination with superintendent of police, Karbi Anglong, Pushparaj Singh along with the released victim reached Kangpokpi headquarter in the intervening night of Friday and Saturday, it said.
Four police teams were engaged including Assam Police personnel under the supervision of superintendent of police, Kangpokpi district, Karthik Malladi. The police team along with the released person reached the spot where the kidnapper asked to bring the ransom money. After about six hours of operation one kidnapper was arrested however upon seeing the approaching of police from multiple directions, the kidnappers were escaped from the spot by taking the advantage of dense jungle but the remaining two kidnapped persons were rescued safely.
Police team are still searching for the kidnappers in some of the suspected locations, police said.
The two rescued persons were handed over to Assam police with due formalities.
Chief minister N. Biren Singh appreciated Kangpokpi Police team through social media on the rescue of the two Assamese.
He said this was the second kidnapping and looting case within this week in Kangpokpi, which is very unfortunate.
