Imphal: Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) held one involved in selling fake academic certificates and recovered five certificates of class X, XI and XII.
Vice president of the student body Oinam Shital told reporters at its office here on Sunday that for the past few months the students’ body has been investigating to find out that some people have been selling fake academic certificates.
During the course of investigation, DESAM has been able to collect a total of five fake certificates including two certificates each for class X and XII and one certificate for class XI.
“The certificate holder of two certificates of Class XII disclosed that they bought the certificate to take part in the Manipur Police recruitment”, Shital said.
The certificates were collected from one person named Golmei Solomon, 35, son of Golmei Gondaichung of Wainem Village, Wainem Kabui, Senapati district.
Shital said Golmei works under one Kamei who is reportedly working as a teacher in Tengkhongjang Higher Secondary School, Noney. From his disclosure, it is also learned that two other persons named K. Rana and one who has succumbed to Covid-19 at JNIMS were also involved. DESAM contact Rana and ask him to clarify the matter, he added.
He said they collect around Rs. 20,000 for the class X certificate and Rs. 30,000 for the class XII certificate along with Aadhaar card, PAN card and residential certificate and they delivered the certificate within three days.
He said the certificate holder of class X disclosed that the certificate was bought in order to go to class XI. The fake certificate gang takes the roll number of passed students and they put the same roll number to the buyer and the gang asks the buyers to check their results at the respective website as they have passed the examination.
The fake certificates were given under the name of some schools located at hill districts, he added.
The seized certificates of class X were registered under the school, Motbung High school under roll number 18693 and the person was passed in the second division in 2012. Under the name of the school one migration certificate, class X certificate and transfer certificate were given to the person.
Another class X certificate was given under the name of the school MBC higher Secondary school with roll number 25794 and the person was passed out in second division in 2019. The remaining three certificates with roll number 18615 (one certificate each for class XII and XI) and 19376 for class XII were also given under the school Thangton Higher Secondary School, the student leader said.
He said the certificates include registration certificate, migration certificate, provisional certificate and mark sheet signatures of school authority and authority of Manipur Board and Council.
Shital said it is suspicious that some officials of the Board of Education Manipur and Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur might be involved in the business of selling fake certificates.
The schools might not be aware of the activity however DESAM will register a case at the respective police station to investigate the matter, he added.
Golmei Solomon who is in the custody of DESAM told reporters that he was misled by the three teachers in order to earn money. He said they called him and ask to go to some random place mainly at Noney parking to collect the money or deliver the certificates.
He said he will cooperate with DESAM in order to root out such activities.
