Imphal: A mob burnt down the gate of Moreh Police station on Monday evening after police beat up a person who was moving in a vehicle levelled Telecom.
Police commandoes deployed for duty at Moreh bazar conducted intensive frisking and checking during the state wide curfew enforced for containing Covid-19 pandemic.
The police halted a vehicle marked ‘Telecom’ moving repeatedly and checked the vehicle. Two persons including a woman was in the vehicle.
The driver, when asked to produce related identity-cards and documents as they were on telecom duty, failed to produce them.
There was contestation between him and the police after the man used strong words against them, a source said.
The commandoes beat the man.
The man went back from the spot and he brought a huge mob and burnt down the police station gate.
Later, the situation was controlled after both the sides resolved to convene a meeting on the next day.
