Imphal: Manipur Police has arrested four cadres of ZUF-K (Zeliangrong United Front- Kamson) who were involved in frequent extortion, threatening, making disturbances to the Indian Railways Companies workers, the transporters and vehicles plying at national highway connecting Imphal and Jiribam road and general public.
The militants were apprehended by a team of Imphal East Police commando unit based on an information of presence of some active cadres of the outlaw organisation ZUF-K in and around New-Checkon area at around 9 pm of Thursday.
The arrested militants, according to police were Duanthuingam Golmei, 30, son of Rakhupou Golmei of Goiteng Village, Khoupum, self-styled 2nd lieutenant of ZUF-K, Gaikhuongam Runagmel, 41, son of Rangjai Ruangmei of Muktina Village, Nungba PS, self-styled 2nd lieutenant of ZUF-K, Tangambou Marenmai, 45, son of (late) Masingbou Marenmei of Phonglang Akutpa village, Kangpokpi PS, self-styled private of ZUF-K and Jangailung Golmei, 24, son of Makudin Golmei of Muktina village, Nungba PS, self-styled private of ZUF-K.
One HK Rifle 33 along with magazine, two Rocket Propelled Grenade launcher, one Self Loading Rifle) and seven mobile phones were seized with their arrest.
Briefing the reporters on Friday, superintendent of police Imphal East N. Herojit said it came to learnt that they have concealed some arms at Noney area, which they used to carry out their unlawful activities. Immediately, in view of the urgency that the arms and ammunitions may be shifted to some other places, a combined team of police commando unit of Imphal East Unit and 10 Assam Rifles along with the arrestees rushed to Noney Part-V, at about 11 pm of Thursday after providing prior information to concern authorities. On reaching the place, the combined team cordoned the area and launched a search operation at about 1:30 am of Thursday. At the southern side of the village, the combined team found signs of people staying at the top of a hillock which was remained inhabited for many months. On the pointing of the arrestee (Gaikhuongam), the combined team conducted further search operation more minutely. At about 150 meters away towards the northern side of the top of the said hillock, near a bush, detected a suspicious location and on checking of the place recovered the arms on the instance of the arrestee (Gaikhuongam), which was concealed underneath the earth, The combined team continued the search operation till 6 am.
The arrested persons along with the seized arms were handed over to Porompat Police station for taking up further necessary legal action against them.
