Imphal: Kakching Police of Manipur on Friday arrested one active cadre of proscribed underground outfit, RPF/PLA ‘involved in the 2017 ambush on Assam Rifles’ at Chamol, Sajik Tampak, Chandel district.
The cadre was apprehended at Kakching Khunou College gate at about 7.30 am. The arrested person has been identified as one Mayanglambam Siromani Singh, 32, alias Casper alias Kesper son of M Romesh Singh of Kakching Khunou Angom Leikai.
Kakching superintendent of police Victoria Yengkhom said he was apprehended when a team of Kakching police commando acted on information that some valley-based underground cadres were loitering in and around Kakching Khunou area for committing prejudicial activities.
During the police operation, the person in a suspicious manner was seen coming from Sugnu towards Kakching Khunou Lamkhai in a foreign-made bike (Kenbo) without the registration number. He was detained in front of Kakching Khunou college gate and during the examination, he disclosed that he was an active cadre of RPF/PLA. He was arrested on the spot and seized the bike, the senior police officer said.
He disclosed to the police that he joined the outfit organisation in 2005 through one corporal of the proscribed outfit Chaothoi of Chairel. He got basic military training for 45 days in 2006 a Tayang, Myanmar under army number 2762.
He revealed to the police that he worked under the command of one Romesh and he was involved in extortion of money for the party fun from the general public, businessmen, government departments and shopkeepers of Thoubal and Kakching district.
Police found out that Siromani was an absconder and a wanted person in connection with an NIA case. Cadres of PLA and Manipur Naga People’s Front carried out the ambush on a Road Opening Party of 4th Assam Rifles at Chamol, Sajik Tampak road on November 15, 2017.
Since the incident police have been tracing for Kesper. The arrested person along with the seizures has been handed over to Waikhong police station and a case has been registered at Waikhong police station for further investigation.
