Imphal: Thoubal district police of Manipur recovered 34 hand grenades with the arrest of three cadres of banned militant group.
The recovery of the bombs and the arrest was made when the policed acted on an information that some members of the banned underground organisation were going to lob hand grenades at some government offices, brick firms etc, to extort money, Thoubal Police superintendent Dr S. Ibomcha Singh said.
It was also informed that they were going to serve demand letters at some government offices of Thoubal. Immediately, several police teams were deployed at different vulnerable locations and conducted intensified frisking and checking, he added.
At around 12.30 pm of Friday one suspected person Moirangthem Megha Singh, 48, of Heirok Part-III was intercepted at Champrathong Heirok Part-III.
Later, the police nabbed two more cadres of the banned outfit identified as M. Rajkumar Singh 22, of Tentha Khunjao and S. Lemba, 34, of Tekcham Mayai Leikai. They were intercepted at around 1: 30 pm while they were coming by one motorbike near the gate of DC office Thoubal.
On searching the bag of Rajkumar Singh three demand letters were recovered. From his disclosure, 34 hand grenades were recovered from his Banana plantation farm, the senior police officer said.
They disclosed that they were coming to serve demand letters to government offices.
They disclosed that they have served many demand letters to the government offices, brick firms etc. They were also planning to explode hand grenades at the government offices, brick firms and government officials who do not fulfill their monetary demands, he added.
The police also recovered five mobile handsets from the arrested cadres.
