Imphal: State government need to give priority for Covid-19 vaccination to persons with disabilities (PWDs) to their respective nearby public health care centres as they face problems to reach the vaccination centres.
The initiatives taken by the government for vaccination is a good step. However, PWDs are facing problems to reach their vaccination centres that is allotted after online booking, a volunteer of Covid-19 Vaccination Samurou Primary health centre (PHC), Sandham Bijoy Singh said in a voice message.
He said in Samurou PHC, 200 persons from 18 years and above were booked for Covid vaccination through online. However, out of the total 37 persons failed to turn up for vaccination, he added.
Various families including illiterate and PWDs who do not have knowledge for online booking but willing to get vaccination are facing to get the Covid vaccine. As there is online booking for vaccination, such persons including PWDs fail to get the benefit for vaccination in place of the absentees in various vaccination centres, he added.
He said the vaccination is done after booking through online and the authority concerned provide the centre where the person is to be vaccinated.
He appealed to the state government and authority concerned to provide hand sanitizer, face mask, hand gloves and others for Samurou PHC. Due to the shortage of essential medical kits the volunteers who are looking after the Samurou PHC are facing big problems, Bijoy said.
