Imphal: Troops of Tengnoupal Battalion and 165 TA Battalion under the aegis of IGAR (South) foiled smuggling of contraband along NH-102 on Sunday.
Based on specific intelligence regarding likely of smuggling contraband near Lockchao, the troops launched an operation. On carrying out a thorough search of the area they recovered contraband items worth Rs 2.77 crore, the Assam Rifles said.
The major items being smuggled were foreign cigarettes, beer and anti-mosquito coil. The contraband was handed over to civil authorities for further action, it added.
