Imphal: A total of 372 Covid SoP violators were detained by state police across Manipur on Wednesday and fined them in continuation of crackdown on violators of guidelines and restrictions issued by the state government.
They were penalised for not wearing masks, for not maintaining social distancing, spitting in public places, etc,.
They were find a sum of Rs 1,01,700 and released after they were warned to follow government guidelines against the contagion.
Highest number of Covid SoP violators was recorded in Thoubal district with the detainment of 209 persons followed by Imphal West with 126 persons.
The Police Department cautioned that people who violate the SoP shall be dealt with strong legal action under National Disaster Management Act, 2005 and other appropriate laws.
Imphal police station detained 17 SoP violators and produced them before the district Magistrate Imphal West. They failed to wear masks and to maintain social distancing in public places.
The district Magistrate directed that a collective amount of Rs 17,000 be imposed on them as penalty for not wearing masks in public places. The police could collect a total of Rs 12,000 and five out of 17 who failed to pay the fine were detained till 6 pm .
Another 10 persons were also produced before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West for violating the Covid safety guidelines and restrictions.
The Court convicted them to either pay a fine of Rs 1000 each or undergo simple imprisonment for three days. They were eventually released on furnishing the fine.
