Imphal: Tribal affairs and hills minister and district in-charge of Churachandpur and Pherzawl districts Vungzagin Valte on Saturday distributed water pump sets, drip and sprinkler irrigation systems at the office premise of district officer, horticulture and soil conservation, Churachandpur.
The equipment were distributed through the department during awareness cum training programme on Micro Irrigation as a part of Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchaya Yojana (PMKSY) for the year 2020-2021.
Valte expressed his admiration of the Prime Minister Modi and the chief minister of Manipur N. Biren Singh for formulating and implementing PMKSY for the benefit of farmers. “The welfare of the farmers is the welfare of the country, the state and the societies” the minister said.
Cautioning the people on misuse of ‘freedom of speech’, he stated that distorting the speeches of others or telling a lie is not under ‘freedom of speech’ as enshrined in the constitution of India. Instead, minister asked the people to serve for the benefit of other human beings.
The water pumps and sprinkler systems are made available at a subsidised rate to about 46 farmers from Churachandpur district and 39 from Pherzawl district.
The distribution of water pumps and sprinklers will help the irrigation system which will ensure better productivity of different crops. Presently, Pherzawl district focuses on the production of ginger and Churachandpur focuses on the production of pineapple with the aim to focus more on cash crops, an official statement said.
