Imphal: Youth affairs and sports minister Letpao Haokip on Tuesday visited the Sainik School Imphal at Pangei.
He met with the management and administrative team of the school, and assured that he will fulfill the demand from the school side regarding improvement of the existing sports infrastructures.
Letpao was accorded a warm welcome by the Principal, Gp. Capt. Rajneesh Kumar; vice-principal Wing Commander Sreeprakash J and other officials and management staff of the school. YAS director T. Phulen accompanied the minister in the visit.
A slideshow presentation was made in front of the minister by the principal at the conference hall highlighting the existing sports infrastructures of the school, and the current issues at hand. He also drew the attention of the minister to provide necessary assistance and guidance to improve the infrastructures.
The minister also inspected the gymnasium, the SAM Manekshaw Indoor Hall, football ground and few other sporting sites inside the school campus.
Letpao assured that he has seriously taken the desire from the school for the infrastructural developments, and will try his level to meet the expectations in the larger interests of the student community of the school as well as the nearby villages and for the tapping of their sporting potentials.
He said even though he wants to fulfil all the demands and all are deserving, it will be tough to develop all at one go. So, he wants to prioritise on which to take up first.
He assured that he will take up the necessary steps to include the school football ground under the Khelo India scheme, so that the ground can be upgraded the professional standards with sprinklers and better grasses. He also opined that for footballing, natural grass field is the best option as it causes less injury and mishaps to the players, while the synthetic turfs offer more chances of injury to the players
He also assured that the badminton court will be equipped with synthetic courts.
