Imphal: Manipur Fire Service on Sunday cleaned the market sheds and surroundings of Khwairamband Ima Keithel, an iconic market run by only women in the heart of Imphal city.
The market sells items ranging from fruits, vegetables to clothes and handicraft products.
The women market was reopened on February 15 after it had been lockdown since March 21 last year due to Covi-19 outbreak.
As asked by chief minister N. Biren Singh, the women vendors alloted Nongma Paanba, the first day of Manipuri Lunar calender, to take up maintenance and cleaning work of the market areas.
For this the market was shut down on this day.
“A hygienic and clean surrounding is essential to keep Imas of our iconic Mother’s Market healthy. As promised to Imas, Manipur Fire Service personnel carried out the maintenance and cleaning work of the market areas as today is the first day of Meitei Lunar Calender month, Lamta. My profound thanks and appreciation to all the Imas for their perpetual support and cooperation, ” Biren writes on his Facebook wall.
The state government is taking up construction of the market street, which the chief minister had said to complete it soon.
