Imphal: Celebrating the four4 years of achievements of the current state government, social welfare and MAHUD minister Henry Okram flagged off a weeklong Cleanliness Drive with awareness on ban of single use plastic at Khwairamband Keithel, here on Wednesday.
The cleanliness drive was organized by Imphal West district administration in collaboration with MAHUD department.
Henry urged the people to extend their support and cooperation for the successful implementation of various welfare initiatives taken up by the government. He stressed that a collective effort and dedication is the need of the hour to make our city or town clean. He mentioned that the motive of the awareness campaign is to sensitize the public about the effects and consequences of the single use plastics on our environment.
Competitions will be held every year among the Municipal Councils/Corporations and Wards of each Council/Corporations for their service delivery to citizens and towards creating cleaner cities/towns. Rankings will be given based on their performances, the minister declared.
Bishnupur district administration also organised a massive cleanliness drive across the district in connection with the celebration of last 4 years of citizen centric governance on the theme “Emerging Manipur” at Mini Secretariat Complex.
Bishnupur DC Neeta Arambam said the cleanliness drive campaign is just the beginning of the series of events planned by the district administration. Different events like tree plantation, campaign on employment generation, awareness program on ODF, etc will also be held in the coming days and on the last day of the celebration that is March 15, a cumulative district level event will be organised by the District
Administration. In the event, solar lamps will be distributed to selected youths and students from across the district.
