Imphal: Chief minister N. Biren Singh appeals the people to celebrate Yaoshang festival observing Covid appropriate behaviours as he greets people on the festival.
“As we rejoice in the festivities, we must not forget to observe Covid appropriate behaviours to protect ourselves from the pandemic. This year, in view of Covid pandemic, usual mode of celebrations such as ‘thabal chongba’ and ‘jatrawali’ have been prohibited with protection of the community as the primary objective. I solicit the support of our people in implementing these drastic measures,” the chief minister said on the eve of the 5-day festival.
Yaoshang, the festival of colours, is one of the biggest festivals of the Meitei community. Everyone, irrespective of age and gender, takes part in celebrating the festival with energy, excitement and cheerfulness accompanied with religious songs and dance performances. The festival has also evolved into an occasion for promoting sports at the grassroots level and encourages fraternisation and social goodwill, he added.
“On the auspicious occasion of Yaoshang, I convey my heartiest greetings and warm wishes to the people of Manipur,” Biren said.
