Imphal: Assam Rifles and Manipur Police foiled narcotic smuggling, intercepted three individuals and recovered 50 packets of Brown Sugar on Saturday.
Acting on specific intelligence from reliable sources, the joint team of Assam Rifles and Bishnupur Police Commando launched a search operation and detained three persons from Kumbi bazaar area under Bishnupur district of Manipur, the Assam Rifles said in a statement released on Sunday.
The traffickers were identified as Sasat Guite, Thangsei Guite both residents of Gamphajol in Churachandpur district and Warepam Ramesh Singh, a resident of Fubala Awang Leikai in Bishnupur district. The recovered contraband is estimated to be of worth over Rs 2 crore.
The apprehended individuals along with seized contraband were handed over to Bishnupur Police station for further investigation, it said.
In another move troops of Kangwai Battalion Assam Rifles facilitated the apprehension of two drug peddlers and recovered 75 grams of Heroine.
Acting on the credible intelligence provided by the Kangwai Battalion Assam Rifles, the Imphal East Police commando team detained two drug peddlers from Pureirormba Khongnangkhong area under Imphal east, district of Manipur on Saturday, the Assam Rifles said.
The assessed market value of the recovered contraband is worth Rs 30 Lakh. The detainees were identified as Wahengbam Jameson, son of Bhutto and Thangjam Chanba, son of Late Momorjit residents of Patsoi part-1, Imphal West district, it added.
