Imphal: Media Houses in Manipur have resumed News publications as state journalist bodies had decided to resume media duties.
Denouncing the lobbing of a Chinese hand grenade at the office of Poknapham, a Manipur daily, and its sister publication Manipur Chronicle on February 13 the journalist fraternity immediately ceased daily duties and continued it till the decision to resume media works from Friday was taken.
Electronic media resumed News broadcasting on the same day while the print media resumed publication on Saturday.
All Manipur Working Journalists Union and Editors Guild Manipur took the decision in a meeting held on Thursday.
The decision was taken assuming that Poknapham, People’s Chronicle and media persons had done nothing wrong as the assailant fails to clarify during the 48 hours ultimatum provided.
The meeting condemned the assailant for not revealing its identity and the reason behind the bomb threat to the media house.
Terming the attack as threat to journalist fraternity media persons in the state took up sit-in rallies in Imphal and other parts of the state protesting the bomb threat.
The state police department had announced a reward of Rs 50,000 to any individual who provides information leading to arrest of the assailant.
Chief minister N. Biren Singh in the Assembly session on February 16 said a 4-member Special Investigation Team has been constituted to probe into the grenade attack at the media house.
