Imphal: Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) Maharaja Leishemba Sanajaoba was felicitated by International Sanamahism Students Association, Kangleipak at Bir Tikendrajit International Airport on Monday.
The student body felicitated MP Sanajaoba for his plea to declare Kangla as a world heritage site and to include Manipuri script (Meetei/Meitei Mayek) during the Parliament session recently.
“Thank you International Sanamahism Students’ Association (ISSA), Kangleipak for receiving me warmly at Bir Tikendrajit International Airport, Imphal today. Such encouragement and recognition compel me to do more and more for my people in future….I will serve my people and my state till my last breath…,” Sanajaoba said on his Facebook wall.
To recognise Manipuri language as a classical language is in the process of materialisation, Sanajaoba said. He believes that measures for declaring Kangla as a world heritage site will be taken up.
He said he will take up further steps to include Manipuri script in Indian currency notes. If required, he will urge the Prime Minister.
Concerning appointment of a regular vice-chancellor of Manipur Central University, the MP said he had met Union education minister Ramesh Pokhriyal and assured to appoint a regular VC for the varsity soon.
