Imphal: Girl students of Dhanamanjuri College of Arts raised their sentiment over closure of hostel even as the classes had resumed on January 27.
Following the state Cabinet decision taken at Kamjong the students turned up at the college hostel on Sunday with the hope to join the classes which began as scheduled.
The students took up protest on the campus locking its gate disallowing to conduct any classes.
Education minister S Rajen Singh on January 16 declared to reopen classes for Class IX and above. He said the education department has decided to resume classes with strict SOPs.
Classes may be conducted in shifts depending on the prevailing circumstances of the respective schools and colleges. Regular visits and inspections will also be conducted, he said. Proper instructions have also been given to officials concerned of the departments. Required medical will also be provided at the institutions, he added. He appealed the teachers, guardians, students and civil organisations to extend cooperation and facilitate the government in opening the educational institutions.
“We came here yesterday. No food has been provided. Nobody here seems to be responsible to receive the hostellers. We condemned the policemen’s action towards the girl students to calm the agitation. We are here to join classes,” an agitating student said.
The students appealed the authority to make arrangement for the students to stay in the hostel and get the opportunity to join classes.
Boys do have similar issue, said a male student, however they adjust their stay with friends staying nearby the college.
